Gerhard Nierhaus: Broken Slide – Photo Exhibition and Sound Installation
For composer Gerhard Nierhaus the inclusion of visual media has always been an important part of his artistic activity. During the last years a number of works in the context of multimedia has come into being. In his recent project Broken Slide the visual and acoustic fathoming of a detail – on one hand an objet trouvé, which, regarded from a microperspective, opens views into hidden structures and landscapes; on the other hand a singular musical cell, which is expanding in space and time.
As visual found object, a damaged preparation of an insect part, which was scanned by high-resolving micro photography in various sectors and depths of focus, whereby not naturalistic pictures, but abstract structures were the aim. As a musical counterpoint a constellation consisting of a few numbers is evolving to a complex polyphone structure. The finissage of the exhibition coincides with the concert project mnemosyne II (concept and voice: Gina Mattiello, bass clarinets: Petra Stump und Heinz-Peter Linshalm, flute: Elena Gabbrielli), in which the musicians will interact with the works of Gerhard Nierhaus. Broken Slide is continued with a concert on March 4th, in which Marko Ciciliani, Barbara Lüneburg and Gerhard Nierhaus will be concered with audiovisual design in various ways.
Broken Slide was supported by the art section of Austrian Bundeskanzleramt and SKE.
